Is Amazon Kids+ Worth It?
Amazon Kids+ is the content subscription bundled with Fire Kids tablets. It’s genuinely useful for some families and easy to skip for others - here’s how to decide.

What Amazon Kids+ includes
Kids+ is a curated library of books, apps, games and video aimed at children, with content filtered by age and surfaced inside the kid-friendly interface. Fire HD Kids and Fire 7/8/10 Kids tablets include one free year; after that it’s a paid subscription (typically around $5.99/month for Prime members, more without Prime, with cheaper annual plans).
When it’s worth keeping
- Your child is young (roughly 3–8) and enjoys browsing lots of different books, apps and shows.
- You value the curation and age-filtering - everything in Kids+ is pre-vetted, so there’s less to manage.
- You’d otherwise buy several kids apps or audiobooks anyway.
When to cancel it
- Your child mainly uses a few specific apps (YouTube Kids, Netflix, a game or two) that aren’t part of Kids+.
- They’re older and want mainstream apps rather than a curated library.
- You’re happy to add your own free apps and manage content yourself.
Cancelling is straightforward, and the tablet keeps working normally - you just lose the curated Kids+ library.
The true-cost angle
Remember Kids+ is the main hidden cost of a Fire Kids tablet. The device is cheap partly because Amazon hopes you’ll keep subscribing. Factor the ~$72/year into your budget if you plan to keep it - or plan to cancel after the free year.
