Do I Need a Travel System?
A travel system bundles a stroller, an infant car seat and a base. It’s brilliant for some families and unnecessary for others. Here’s how to decide.

What a travel system actually is
A travel system is a stroller + infant car seat + car base sold together (or made compatible). The car seat clicks into the base in the car and onto the stroller frame outside it, so a sleeping baby transfers between the two without being woken or disturbed.
When a travel system is the smart buy
- You drive regularly and want easy car-to-stroller transfers.
- You want a newborn-ready setup in one purchase.
- You like the value - a bundle is usually cheaper than buying the pieces separately.
- You’re a first-time parent who wants a simple, coordinated kit.
When to buy separately instead
- You already own a car seat you like - just buy a compatible stroller or adapter.
- You rarely drive (city life) - a bassinet or newborn-ready travel stroller may suit better.
- You want a premium stroller that isn’t sold as a system - pair it with a top car seat via an adapter.

The bottom line on value
For most driving families, a travel system is the easiest and best-value way to start from birth. If you already own gear you love, or rarely use a car, buying separately with an adapter can be smarter. See our newborn stroller guide.
